If you have been following me for a while you'll know that I often go down to south Devon, an area that everyone calls the English riviera! When the sun is shining you wouldn't know you're in England it's delightful!
I have been here for a few days now and currently as I'm writing this I'm sitting on the beach and I'm about to tuck into some cheesy chips :)
Well they were amazing!!
It's Sunday as I'm writing this, We came down late Friday night and i went straight to bed. On Saturday morning we went to Totnes - a pretty market town by the river. We had a lovely lunch at the waterside bistro which I would highly recommend. After lunch we had a look around the shops and markets. There's not many high street shops as they're mostly individual boutiques however the last time we were in Totnes I managed to pick up some lovely fabric for one of my makeup bags (fleurs) and it's a fabric I absolutely love but I didn't think the lady would still have any, unfortunately she didn't but I have found a few other fabrics instead that i love just as much so they will be out in the near future.
After Totnes we went to an otter & butterfly sanctuary in Buckfastleigh and I would recommend it if you're into that kind of thing . I didn't think I'd like the butterfly house as much as I actually did. They had quite a few otters outside where you can get quite close and see them being fed and hear what they're keepers say about them, it was £8 each and we were only there maybe 40minutes so for some people it could be seen as a lot but it was an independent sanctuary so they need the support they get.
Unfortunately i didn't manage to get any decent photos of the otters as they're quite speedy! however if you follow me on snapchat you will of seen them @Gracies_x i will also pop a photo on my instagram in the near future @GracieSaunderson.
They also had many rescued terrapins inside the butterfly house, fish and of course butterflies.
So as i mentioned i enjoyed the butterflies more than i thought i would, i thought they would be flying around landing on my shoulder which i wasn't looking forward to but they were flying past by delicately and as a 22 year old i can happily say they were beautiful to look at.
The part that amazed me the most was all the chrysalis hanging up so you could watch the butterflies emerge from their cocoon which was A-M-AZING! As you can see in the 2nd photo below some of the chrysalis had a metallic finish to them which boggles my mind! well done nature!!
I'm sorry if any of these photos are making you itch right now but i find them way to fascinating to not share! As you can see in the last photo that butterfly had just come out of its cocoon i was waiting for their wings to ping up and for them to say TADAAAA!!
Its amazing to think that an animal can go from being something that struggles to get around to then being able to fly.
When our visit at the sanctuary was over we headed to Buckfast Abbey which is just up the road from the sanctuary i have been there many times and you will of already seen it on my youtube channel 'Caught In A Thunderstorm' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oCrmIyh2j8
After a walk around the abbey we went back to get ready for dinner. We met up with a few family members who live down there and after dinner we went for a walk along the sea front which is one of my favourite things to do.
The sea was still, the sun was setting and the harbour was lit up it looked beautiful. We walked out along to pier to see the fishermen casting their lines and yachts and jet skies finally enjoying a stunning summers evening.
It's Sunday morning as i'm writing this, we headed down to the beach with all our gear chairs, parasols a pick-nick the lot! It's boiling this morning and silly me didn't pack any summer clothes so i headed down in jeans! however it became quite cloudy so it was fine.
The beach we went to was very stony and my feet found that out the hard way however there was plenty of sand to walk on too. I headed down to the shore to dip my toes and suddenly i remembered that its not Jamaica the water was absolutely freezing yet somewhat refreshing. This is the day i tucked into my cheesy chips haha!
After a few hours on the beach and it started to go a bit cooler... our summer was over! We headed to a house and gardens called Ugbrooke House. The family still live there so we weren't allowed to take photos or the house or inside however i managed to take a few pretty ones of the gardens which were stunning.
We decided to head home that evening but first we went to Babbacombe to enjoy some fish and chips before the long car journey home.... Oh and of course an ice cream, you cant miss out on that when you're at the sea side!
And that's the end of this very different blog post from me i hope you enjoyed reading it and scrolling through the photos. Make sure to keep up to date with me on social media its linked on each page and ill see you soon xxx
